Community Expo - More Details

We all need to be properly resourced to meet this challenge. So it is imperative that the resources we already have are utilized to their fullest extent – resources bought with the hard work of our community who pay their taxes and still dig deeper to give us donations and bequests of time and money that enable us to do what we do.

There are also more opportunities for collaborative ventures with local businesses and organisations than ever before. These ventures bring great benefits such as the ability to build trust and develop relationships of integrity that go beyond the frustrating boundaries of another grant application form; they allow mutual cooperation, and make funding projects and finding solutions so much easier.

It is our hope that this will eventually lead to a situation where effective organizations are not dependant on any one source for funding.

The concept of collaboration and co-operation is not new.

This is not a project – it is a refreshing new initiative that will enhance existing funding and project philosophy within the community welfare sector and give us more autonomy, flexibility and control over the work we do, which is to empower and resource our clients. If the assets we have are not totally exhausted we are not using them properly and some clients somewhere, pay the price.

But this is a process of change, change that is inevitable. And unless change is embraced as a positive thing, it is not comfortable. By showing unity and co-operation and by being proactive we can, however, dictate that change and what it means for us. As such we must do what we do best and make it happen. We need to become experts in collaboration and effectiveness.

The community welfare sector has within its echelons some of the most dedicated, creative and lateral people in Australia. We know that given direction, purpose and the resources that the elimination of homelessness is not only possible but achievable within a reasonable time. All we have to do is make ourselves accountable to that goal. Change is generational – this initiative is aimed at strengthening communities for those babies born today. Think in terms of 20 years and know that what we do with this expo will lay a firm foundation for that reality. It is also our hope that this initiative and the example the sector sets, will challenge our communities to join with us and find more and better solutions.
