Kim Strong

Director

Kim Strong came from Zimbabwe where he worked with KPMG as an auditor and management consultant, which involved him in all sectors and at all levels of commerce and industry. Later he joined the largest car assembly plant in Zimbabwe, Willowvale Motor Industries as General Accounting Manager with additional portfolios for financial analysis and IT. While there he was involved in the exposure of corruption within the vehicle industry which resulted in a special government commission. He also assisted in the implementation of a joint venture with Mazda.

Kim was then invited to take on the position of Commercial Executive of John W Searcy a member of the Apex Corporation of Zimbabwe where his principle mandate was the negotiation and co-ordination of special projects, joint ventures and transfers of technology. This required local and international networking with governments, donor agencies and businesses. In addition Kim also managed a small subsidiary factory that manufactured vibrator screening; production doubled over two years under Kim’s management which he attributes to mutual respect, worker empowerment and participation, a policy of promotion from within and an effective honest communication and management style.

Kim then established and was managing director of the largest hands on creative credit recovery bureau in Zimbabwe which had a diverse clientele including the Posts and Telecommunications Corporation of Zimbabwe, IBM, and Siemens. The collection strategies developed were lateral and innovative and copied by other Zimbabwean credit recovery organisations.

At the same time Kim set-up a trading company which dealt in maize and proved the viability of using peasant farmers to grow paprika in the rural areas. The paprika pilot project paid up to 400 peasant farmers a week for a highly technical product which was then exported.

Since emigrating to Australia in 1997 Kim has been involved in sales, water filtration and community work and has travelled extensively throughout south east and central Queensland. Kim has continued the philanthropic work he did in Zimbabwe, working with children and families, and has been a foster carer for the last five years in Australia.

Kim brings to the Solution Network a very creative and lateral approach where the impossible is seen as a challenge and not a statement of fact.
